Venera (Russian : Венера;) was developed by the USSR to study Venus . As was the case with other Soviet spacecraft interplanetary exploration, the latest versions were launched in pairs a few weeks apart.

The most striking results of this pioneering program was the first entry in the atmosphere of another planet from a spacecraft Ground, the first soft landing on another planet, the first images transmitted from the surface of another planet and a radar mapping of Venus. Unfortunately, although the orbit of Venus is closer to the Earth than March, the surface conditions of Venus are much more extreme, which means a very limited survival for landing probes.

The entire program can be considered a great success.

Venera is the Russian name Venus.
